Green & red thai curry paste

green_curry_pasteHi all! Today I want to review one of my favourites kitchen tricks: green & red thai curry paste, that makes delicious dishes.

They both are from a brand called ‘Thai Taste’, specialized (not surprisingly) in condiments and sauces to make authentic Thai food.

If you are familiar with the thai food, you’ll know that in order to cook it, the ingredients and the techniques needed are quite different from ours, and different from indian’s too.

That’s why is a good idea to buy a prepared mix, because it’s quite difficult to find the ingredients in almost any market. So the offering from Thai Taste, which makes thai food simple and tasty, is quite handy, and cheap too.Red_curry_paste

Basically, in order to make a delicious homemade thai curry dish, you only have to follow quite simple instructions and add a few ingredients, and in a matter of minutes, you’ll have a quite decent thai dish.

From all the different solutions for cooking thai food, this is the best, both for its simplicity and taste.

I lived in London for quite a while, and when I came back to Spain I really missed these flavours. Here in Madrid is quite difficult to find a good thai. Just to put an example: when I came back, I went to an ‘asian’ restaurant (here there’s not much differentation between indian, thai, japanese… :S) and I ordered a Pad Tai (one of my favourite dishes!). What was my surprise when they came back with an olive oil taste plate of noodles…

So, even if you are an amateur chef or a casual cooker, or you are in Spain or UK (or anywhere, really) this won’t dissapoint you. It’s perfect to surprise your friends or trest yourself with an exotic, tasty dish.

Trumer Beer – Pils, Radler and Cask

The Trumer Radler (beer with lemonade), was quite a nice surprise, they’ve managed to make a Radler in which you can actualy taste the beer and with a nice lemon touch that makes it very refreshing. With the lemon it’s a bit sweet, but with the lemonade we were expecting it. The bubles are thin, but you can feel them, they don’t get lost due to the limonade. We’ll have it again on warm days, very refreshing.

The Trumer Pils is a flavory pilsner full bodied. It’s a pilsner, but the flavour is quite intense, not quite as much as an Ale, but it’s quite tasty.

Last but not least, we had the Cask Trumer beer, which was quite surprising. It’s a beer that has been conditioned in a cask. The smell is similar to a cyder, the taste is also a bit fruitty and the bubbles are similar to that of the champagne. We’re quite into tasting beers, and we had never tasted anything similar. If you’re up for a new type of beer we definitely recomend trying it!

Cocinar al vapor con un estuche Lekué

Me encanta cocinar, pero no siempre dispongo de mucho tiempo para cocinar y me apetece comer sano.

Hace unos meses descubrí estos estuches para cocinar al vapor de Lékué de silicona. La verdad es que es todo un descubrimiento, ahora cuezo las verduras en el microondas casi a diario. Esto me permite ahorrar bastante tiempo (p.ej. las zanahorias se cuecen en unos 5 minutos) y me permite hacer otras cosas mientras se está cocinando la verdura sin preocuparme porque se vayan a pasar – las dejo en el microondas con el tiempo marcado y me voy a poner la mesa o a sacar a los niños del baño o lo que sea.

En principio se puede usar para hacer cualquier cosa al vapor, yo la uso fundamentalmente para cocinar verduras o pescado y la verdad es que salen muy bien.

Este modelo tiene una bandeja intermedia para poder poner agua debajo y recoger el caldo por separado.

Supuestamente también vale para cocinar en el horno, la he usado unas cuantas veces y está empezando a quedarse de otro color, así que he dejado de usarla en el horno… Pero bueno, en el horno sigo usando las fuentes que ya tenía, que no son tan cómodas de limpiar pero no era el propósito inicial para el que compré este estuche.

Hoy en día cuando quiero cocinar algo nuevo suelo buscar la receta en internet, ya a penas uso los libros de recetas y cocina. Pero cuando quiero hacer un cocido, las primeras veces que hice lentejas… uso el libro de 1080 recetas de Simone Ortega.

Pero para empezar a cocinar lo mejor es coger como referencia un buen libro de cocina, si quieres cocinar recetas típicas españolas no puede falta en tu casa el libro de 1080 recetas de Simone Ortega, que explica las recetas más típicas de la cocina española y empieza con unos trucos básicos a saber para cocinar.

En definitiva, un libro imprescindible en cualquier hogar español.
